Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 65-67% by 2035 relative to 1990 levels in order to implement the Paris Agreement. This is reported on the website of legal acts.
The decree comes into force on August 6, 2025.
The document also states that the reduction should take into account the maximum possible absorption capacity of forests and other natural ecological systems and subject to sustainable and balanced socio-economic development of the Russian Federation, its non-discriminatory access to equipment and technologies necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and (or) increase their absorption.
