The State Duma has adopted a law on the protection of the Russian language from excessive use of borrowings in public space. This is stated in the message of the State Duma.
According to the law, signage, signs and information signs in shops and public places must be written in Russian. They may also be duplicated in the languages of the peoples of Russia or in foreign languages.
Another change concerns the names of residential complexes and construction sites: developers are required to use only Cyrillic letters when creating commercial names when advertising new real estate.
The law is expected to enter into force on March 1, 2026.
