The State Duma adopted in the second and third readings the law on amendments to the Federal Law "On Deposit Insurance in Banks of the Russian Federation" and "On Insolvency (Bankruptcy)". This is stated in the message of the State Duma.
The document extends the system of compulsory deposit insurance in Russian banks to electronic funds of their clients.
According to the First Deputy Chairman of the Financial Market Committee Konstantin Bakharev, whose words are quoted in the message, previously the legislation did not classify electronic money as objects of insurance protection, although many citizens used them. The Law eliminates this legal gap.
After the law comes into force, according to the parliamentarian, owners of electronic wallets who will be identified will be able to expect insurance compensation at the same level as owners of standard deposits, up to 1.4 million rubles, in the event of revocation of the bank's license.
