The volume of communication services in May 2024 increased by 7.3%

According to Rosstat, the volume of communication services provided to enterprises of all types of activities in May 2024 increased by 7.3% compared to May 2023, compared with April 2024 — decreased by 1.8%, amounting to 221.3 billion rubles.

This is stated in issue No. 1582 of the monthly bulletin "Branches of the Russian economy: production, finance, securities. Communication and information technology" dated July 17, 2024.

According to Rosstat's operational data, tariffs for information and communications services in the Russian Federation for legal entities in May 2024 increased by 5.7% compared to the same period in 2023, and by 0.2% compared to April 2024.

The volume of services in software development in May 2024 amounted to 289.5 billion rubles. This figure increased by 46% compared to May 2023, and decreased by 3.3% compared to the previous month. The volume of other IT services in May 2024 amounted to 142.7 billion rubles, which is 49.3% higher than in May 2023 and 2.1% lower than the previous month. At the same time, the volume of paid IT services to the population in May amounted to 31.1 billion rubles, which is 19% higher than in May 2023 and 0.8% higher than in April 2024.

According to analysts of the Kontur service.Focus", as of July 1, 2024, 194.185 thousand IT organizations worked in Russia, six months ago — 187.274 thousand companies whose activities are related to information technology. Thus, the number of IT companies increased by 3.7% in six months. The total revenue of the sector in 2023 increased by 31% (or 1.6 trillion rubles) to 6.8 trillion rubles, and net profit increased 2.1 times (+483 billion rubles) to 924 billion rubles.

The State Duma adopted in the third reading the law on compulsory insurance of damage caused by artificial intelligence (AI), as part of the work of experimental legal regimes (EPR). In the case of damage caused by artificial intelligence, in addition to compulsory insurance of damage caused to the life, health and property of citizens, it is proposed to create a commission to identify the circumstances as a result of which harm was caused.

The Netherlands-based Yandex N.V. closed the deal on the sale of the Russian business and completely withdrew from the shareholders of Yandex. By July 31, it will change its name to Nebius Group and stop using the brands of the same name. The new parent company was the Yandex MCPAO, which is owned by a consortium of investors. A consortium of investors conducted an exchange and over-the-counter exchange and repurchase of Yandex N.V. shares. The exchange was attended by investors who purchased Yandex shares on the Moscow Stock Exchange and the St. Petersburg Stock Exchange.
