The volume of electric generation in Russia in January–April 2024 increased by 3.9% compared to the same period in 2023, to 432 mlr. kWh. Such data was published by Rosstat. And the UES System Operator told reporters that energy consumption in the Unified Energy System (UES) of Russia has increased by 3.3% since the beginning of the year compared to the same period in 2023.

This is stated in issue No. 1579 of the monthly bulletin "Branches of the Russian economy: production, finance, securities. Electric Power Industry" dated June 24, 2024.

These data do not take into account the leap year and the temperature factor. Energy-deficient regions of Russia continue to show a significant increase in energy consumption. Thus, in the southeastern part of the Unified energy System (UES) of Siberia, energy consumption in the first quarter of 2024 increased by 9.6%; in the UES of the East – by 5.2%; in the southwestern part of the UES of the South – by 1.3%.

The heads of the energy departments of the SCO member states approved the "Strategy for the Development of Energy cooperation among the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization until 2030." The document defines the key areas of cooperation between the SCO states, including improving energy security, diversifying the energy sector, developing low-carbon energy, as well as developing the potential for scientific, technical and personnel cooperation in the energy sector. It is expected that the strategy will be included in the list of documents to be adopted at the summit of the SCO heads of state in Astana on July 3-4.

The volume of electricity exports from Russia in the first quarter of 2024 decreased by 20.2% year-on-year, to 2.065 billion kWh. Such information was provided by PJSC Inter RAO. The decrease in export volumes is explained by supply restrictions to China caused by low water availability, increased consumption in the Far East, as well as repairs of generating equipment. An increase in the volume of exports was recorded to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and some other areas. According to forecasts, the export of electricity from Russia in 2024 may amount to about 8 billion kWh against 10.7 billion kWh in 2024. In addition, Inter RAO is negotiating the resumption of electricity exports to Turkey and may start supplying electricity to Uzbekistan in the autumn.

The Russian Federation and Uzbekistan have signed an agreement on the construction of a low-power nuclear power plant. The project provides for the construction of an ASMM in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan according to a Russian project with a capacity of 330 MW (6 rectors with a capacity of 55 MW each). Rosatom will act as the general contractor for the construction of the station, local companies will also be involved in the construction. The selected site has already been investigated, its suitability and safety have been confirmed, which will significantly reduce the project implementation time. Construction work on the site will begin this summer.
