The volume of electric generation in Russia in January–July 2024 increased by 3.8% compared to the same period in 2023 to 704 billion kWh. Such data was published by Rosstat. And from the analytical report of SCM Market Predictor, it follows that the increase in electricity consumption in the wholesale market in Europe and Siberia in July amounted to 6% and 5%, respectively.
This is stated in issue No. 1589 of the monthly bulletin "Branches of the Russian economy: production, finance, securities. Electric Power Industry" dated September 02, 2024.
In July, the power consumption in the unified energy system repeatedly updated the highs against the background of the summer heat. The temperature factor has led to an increase in the volume of emergency repairs and capacity restrictions at power plants.
China was able to exceed the planned target for renewable energy capacity of 1.2 thousand ahead of schedule. GW, which the country was supposed to achieve in 2030. This follows from the data of the National Energy Administration of the People's Republic of China. In July, the total capacity of wind and solar power plants in China increased by 25 GW to 1,206 GW. Back in 2019, the figure was only 414.7 GW, with an annual increase of 100-150 GW. A sharp leap was made in 2023, when total inputs exceeded 300 GW. Despite the increase in capacity, solar and wind generation in 2024 in China accounts for about 14% of the total generation in the country. China suspended the issuance of permits for the commissioning of coal-fired power plants in the first half of this year amid the development of renewable energy sources.
The justification of investments in the construction of the Kola NPP-2 has been completed. Such information was provided by Vasily Omelchuk, director of the Kola NPP, at a press conference. The planned cost of the station slightly exceeds 200 billion rubles in prices at the beginning of 2024. These calculations have so far taken into account two power units with a capacity of 600 MW each. A decision on two more power units is being formed. The site for the station is designed in advance for the construction of four power units. The start of construction and installation work on the construction of power unit No. 1 of KAES-2 is planned in 2027. The commissioning of the power unit is scheduled for 2035.
The average monthly equilibrium electricity purchase prices in the competitive market in August 2024 decreased by 4.5% in Europe and the Urals compared to the previous month, and increased by 0.1% in Siberia. Compared with the same period a year earlier, the equilibrium average prices in the first energy zone were 9.0% higher in August, and 46.6% lower in the second. The difference between the average equilibrium price in these two zones in August was 19.4%. The price dynamics of the past month was relatively smooth in both the first and second energy zones – there were no price spikes with a drop of more than 12%.
