Vladimir Putin signed decrees on the recognition of the state sovereignty of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the state sovereignty of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The decrees come into force from the date of their signing. The relevant documents are posted on the Kremlin's website.

"In accordance with the universally recognized principles and norms of international law, recognizing and reaffirming the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, taking into account the will of the people of the Kherson region at the referendum held on September 27, 2022, I decree: to recognize the state sovereignty and independence of the Kherson region," the decree says.

"In accordance with the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, recognizing and reaffirming the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, taking into account the will of the people of the Zaporozhye region at the referendum held on September 27, 2022, I decree: to recognize the state sovereignty and independence of the Zaporozhye region," the decree says.
