Vladimir Putin signed the law on excise tax on sugary drinks

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the federal law "On Amendments to Article 4 of Part One, Part Two of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation and Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation". This is reported by the Kremlin's press service.

The law, in particular, refers to excisable goods sugar-containing beverages packaged in consumer packaging, made using drinking and mineral water.

An excise tax of 7 rubles will be levied on 1 liter of a drink with a sugar content of more than 5 g per 100 milliliters. The innovation will not affect fermented beverages, kvass with an alcohol content of 0.5% to 1.2%, as well as juices, nectars, juice drinks and fruit drinks.

The Ministry of Finance estimates the volume of excise tax receipts at 25 billion rubles per year. The excise tax is introduced from July 1, 2023.
