VNIRO will study the possibility of restoring the sturgeon fishery in the Sea of Azov

Specialists of the VNIRO Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation subordinate to Rosrybolovstvo will assess the possibility of restoring the sturgeon fishery in the Sea of Azov. This was stated by Arsen Mirzoyan, Deputy Director and Head of the Azov—Black Sea branch of the VNIRO Research and Development Center of the Russian Federation, Rosrybolovstvo reported.

The expeditions will be conducted on the Oleg Betin scientific research vessel. Experts plan to obtain new information about the state of stocks of sturgeon species in the Sea of Azov. Previously, an increase in biomass was recorded from almost zero to 3 thousand tons.

The Azov-Black Sea branch of the VNIRO Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation will expand the research areas in the Black Sea. Scientists will work in Russian waters, including the exclusive economic zone. They will determine patterns of changes in the formation of areas and the timing of the extraction of hamsa and sprat, providing more than 60% of the catch in the region.
