Sistema Charitable Foundation and Medsi, the largest federal network of private clinics in the corporation's portfolio, awarded the winners of a joint competition in the field of medical innovations, which was held for the second time. The competition helps to identify and support promising developments by Russian young scientists and research teams who will receive financial and expert support in the implementation of their projects. The best ideas will be able to find their application in medicine and healthcare in the near future.
"The development of innovations and the conduct of fundamental and experimental research in the field of healthcare directly affect the effectiveness of the care provided and, ultimately, the quality of life of the population. Therefore, it is in this industry that the applied importance of scientific research plays a key role," said the member of the Expert Council of the competition. Igor Semenyakin, Medical Director of GC Medsi, part of AFK Sistema Group.
Applications for the 2024 competition were received from young scientists and specialists from 13 regions of Russia: Moscow and the Moscow region, Rostov, Volgograd, Chelyabinsk, Arkhangelsk, Ryazan and Nizhny Novgorod regions, Krasnoyarsk, Perm and Primorsky Territories, Mordovia and Tatarstan. Of the 9 best projects aimed at improving the quality of prevention and public health, two are dedicated to the introduction of new IT solutions in medicine.
Candidate of Medical Sciences Danil Malyutin, Deputy Medical Director for Radiation and Instrumental Diagnostics at Medsi Group of Companies, together with his team developed an automated BI-analytics system for loading heavy medical equipment aimed at increasing the availability of radiation diagnostic methods. The members of the research team analyzed data from diagnostic devices, which made it possible to estimate the schedule load, equipment downtime intervals, and hours of higher and lower load. The project will help to improve the efficiency of the equipment and reduce the average duration of examination of patients without loss of diagnostic quality.
Ophthalmologist at the Federal Scientific and Clinical Center for Specialized Types of Medical Care and Medical Technologies of the FMBA of Russia Margarita Khabazova presented a project aimed at introducing innovative methods of analyzing ophthalmic images and using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into clinical practice. The growing number of patients with chronic visual diseases who require regular ophthalmological examination is putting a high burden on the healthcare system. The proposed development will make it possible to delegate some of the tasks to secondary medical staff and organize pre-medical screening, which will increase the capacity of the ophthalmology room and free up the doctor's time to solve more complex tasks requiring high qualifications. AI can also be used for the purpose of dynamic monitoring of the pathological process against the background of ongoing treatment.
