Russia and Ethiopia to develop a roadmap for bilateral trade and economic cooperation

The 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Ethiopian Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Trade was held in Addis Ababa.

The Russian delegation was headed by Evgeny Petrov, Head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use, and the Ethiopian delegation was headed by Belete Mollya, Minister of Innovation and Technology of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

During the meeting, the participants paid special attention to the issues of financial cooperation, investment and trade.  The parties agreed to start creating a roadmap for bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The document will be developed by specialists of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.

The Russian side informed the partners about the Government's decision to resume the activities of the Russian trade mission in Ethiopia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the Malka Vakana hydroelectric power plant modernization project and the potential for cooperation in the fields of geology, healthcare, education and information technology.

Following the meeting, the parties signed an agreement between the Russian Red Cross and the Ethiopian Ministry of Health on the operation of the Dejazmach Balchi Hospital in Addis Ababa, and also agreed on the text of an intergovernmental agreement on the establishment and operation of a joint Russian-Ethiopian center for Biological Research in Ethiopia.

On the eve of the meeting, the specialists of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia held a number of consultations with the participation of Russian and Ethiopian specialized agencies on the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation.
