Scientists of the Saratov State Technical University named after Gagarin Yu.A. have developed an ekranoplane with improved flight characteristics. This device can make a stable flight over water and a solid earth surface.
The author of the development is Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department "Ecology and Technosphere Safety" of the Institute of Urban Studies, Architecture and Construction, Professor of the Academy of Military Sciences Alexander Klyuzhin.
"Ekranoplan is a special type of water transport, which combines the high–speed qualities of the aircraft with the seaworthiness and carrying capacity of traditional vessels. We have created an ekranoplane based on a new principle of movement with optimal flight characteristics and a high level of stability. It is capable of making a stable flight in all modes of movement, not only over water, but also over a solid ground surface," commented Alexander Klyuzhin.
The development will be in demand in marine aviation for the transportation of cargo and passengers. The aircraft has increased maneuverability and safety at extremely low altitudes above the crests of waves, which ensures its operation even in difficult weather conditions. Scientists have achieved such indicators thanks to the introduction of a new propulsion system: it is built according to a helicopter scheme and is located on the upper plane of the ekranoplan body.
The key feature is that the developed propulsion system consists of an internal combustion engine (ICE) and four electric motors, each of which has a separate propeller. Screws can work with both internal combustion engines and electric motors, depending, for example, on external conditions – weather, terrain. This method allows you to recharge batteries, which will be in demand when working on open water surfaces.
In addition, thanks to the new method, it is possible to abandon the use of heavy batteries – they complicate the fasteners of the entire structure, limit the load capacity and make the system less stable.
