Within the framework of the federal project "Conservation of unique water bodies" of the national project "Ecology" in the Kaluga region, a comprehensive rehabilitation of two small rivers has been completed - the Puddle (in the city of Maloyaroslavets) and the Kamenka (in the area of the settlements of Kamenka and Shamorodino in the Kozelsky district).

Both rivers flow mainly within the boundaries of settlements and are actively used for recreational purposes. In addition, these water bodies are rightfully considered one of the most beautiful small rivers in Central Russia in general and the Kaluga region in particular. River valleys represent unique landscape and biological-climatic complexes of the middle zone, which are in dynamic equilibrium, and have great cognitive, biological and ecological significance.

As a result of the survey of riverbeds, it turned out that due to the long-term impact of anthropogenic and natural factors, they are heavily silted up and clogged with fallen trees and shrubs. Siltation of the watercourse led to increased flooding of rivers and flooding of nearby territories, as well as to swamping of low-lying coastal zones. Further degradation of the rivers posed a danger to residents of coastal areas.

The clearing of the 5-kilometer section of the Luzha River was carried out for two years. During this time, more than 50 thousand m3 of bottom sediments were seized, the water area was cleared of wood and dead vegetation. Rosvodresursy allocated about 62.2 million rubles for the implementation of the project in 2023-2024. As a result, the living conditions of 27.9 thousand people in the city of Maloyaroslavets have improved.

A 3.2 km section of the Kamenka River was cleared during 2024. About 3.0 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget for the implementation of the project. As a result of the comprehensive improvement of the water body, the river's ability to self-purify has been restored, the recreational attractiveness of the reservoir has increased, and the environmental living conditions of more than 730 residents of the settlements of Kamenka and Shamordino have improved.
