Ministry of Education and Science of Russia 05 July 2022 19:29 The competition is held by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and the Innovation Promotion Foundation within the framework of the federal project "Platform of University Technological Entrepreneurship". It was developed according to the strategic initiative of the same name, approved by the Chairman of the Government of Russia Mikhail Mishustin. This year, 1 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal budget for the competition.

"The achievement of the goals set by the President now largely depends on young people — ensuring the economic security and technological sovereignty of the country. The Student Startup contest allows us to support their business ideas, help bring innovative products to the market and occupy vacant niches. 2.3 thousand applications were received for the first stage of the competition. The expert jury selected 650 winners from them. Most of these startups are aimed at creating digital technologies and new devices for almost all sectors of the economy and industry. I would like to note that not just one student is behind the projects, but a whole team of like-minded people. I wish the guys success in unlocking the potential of startups, we count on their significant contribution to ensuring technological sovereignty," said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Of the 650 winners, 216 startups are related to digital technologies, 161 — to new devices and intelligent manufacturing technologies, 68 startups won in the direction of "Medicine and health—saving technologies", 66 — in the direction of "Creative industries", 56 are related to chemical technologies and new materials, 45 — with biotechnologies and 38 - with resource-saving energy.

The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov noted that students of all fields of training participated in the first stage of the competition.

"Students from all regions of the country should have equal opportunities to realize their entrepreneurial potential. The first stage of the competition was attended by students from over 250 universities of both technical and humanitarian orientation. Moscow, the Republic of Tatarstan, St. Petersburg, Tomsk and Novosibirsk regions are the leaders in terms of the number of winners. The practical benefits of the competition are not limited to financial support. By filling out an application, thinking over a business project and defending it to experts, participants increase their knowledge, skills and abilities, learn critical thinking and teamwork," Valery Falkov said.

"The foundation has extensive experience in supporting young innovators within the framework of the "SMART Guy" and "Start" programs. The Student Startup competition is distinguished from other projects by its focus directly on students. We have introduced an additional direction of project activity into it, "Creative Industries", which turned out to be very popular. Among the winners, it was chosen by more than 60 student groups, or 10% of the total number. Those who have not yet been able to receive a grant should not despair. Right now, the second stage of the Student Startup competition is underway, so potential participants can request expert comments and, having finalized their project, send it back for consideration," said Sergey Polyakov, General Director of the Innovation Promotion Foundation.

Recall that the selection of students' applications included several stages, including protection in an online format. As part of the expert jury, representatives of the business community, universities and scientific organizations, accelerators and other operators of the federal project assessed their technological effectiveness, market prospects, competitiveness and qualifications.

The selection of projects took place from February 22 to April 11, 2022 in seven thematic areas: "Digital technologies", "Medicine and health-saving technologies", "Chemical technologies and new materials", "New devices and Intelligent production technologies", "Biotechnology", "Resource-saving energy" and "Creative Industries". The list of winners is posted on the website. https://fasie.ru/press/fund/studstartup-results-1/
