Perm, Russia – MTS PJSC (MOEX: MTSS, MTS or the Company), a digital ecosystem, announces the signing of an agreement on cooperation in the field of monitoring of water bodies with Perm State National Research University. The agreement is aimed at working together to improve the environmental situation on the territory of the Kizelovsky coal basin.

Within the framework of the partnership, monitoring of the quality of water bodies in real time will be organized, including using digital services and infrastructure of MTS and PGNIU aimed at rehabilitating the territory of the Kizelovsky coal basin. The MTS ecomonitoring system involved in the project, which has already been launched in a number of other regions of Russia, will automatically monitor the quality of the aquatic environment around the clock, as well as the volume and composition of pollutants discharged.

The complex of ecomonitoring of outflows and river conditions includes parametric buoys for monitoring water bodies equipped with submersible sensors for measuring physico-chemical parameters of water.

Among the main measured parameters are acidity, conductivity, turbidity and other indicators. In addition, the system includes an MTS platform solution for displaying and visually presenting data, communication channels, as well as cloud and physical data storage.

"We already have experience in implementing ecomonitoring solutions in our arsenal. For example, similar monitoring systems for water bodies and atmospheric air operate in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, and a video monitoring complex operates in the Chelyabinsk Region. Today, our digital solutions can provide continuous monitoring of almost any facilities to take operational measures if necessary. I am sure that by applying the research experience of PSNIU, together we will be able to improve the environmental situation on the territory of Cuba," commented Oksana Kaigorodova, director of the MTS branch in the Perm Region.

"The environmental situation in the Kizelovsky coal basin is under special control in the Perm Region. I consider cooperation with MTS in this direction to be extremely important. I am sure that our joint work will not only be a significant step towards stabilizing the environmental situation of Cuba and the entire Kama region. As part of our cooperation, we intend to use digital services using remote sensing data, as well as develop new solutions and implement innovations to improve the quality of life of residents of the region. In addition, we will be happy to popularize the results of our joint projects and scale them to other regions," commented Nikolai Maksimovich, Deputy Director for Science at the PSNIU Natural Science Institute.

Earlier, MTS was the first among Russian telecom operators to receive a license in the field of hydrometeorology and related fields to determine the level of chemical pollution of soils, atmospheric air and water bodies, as well as hydrological and hydrobiological characteristics. The license issued by the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet) confirms the environmental expertise of MTS and allows monitoring changes in the environment and applying scientifically significant data to improve the quality of life of Russians.
