Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order approving the Strategy for the Sustainable Development of the Azov Sea region for the period up to 2040, as well as an action plan for its implementation. The document was developed on behalf of the President.
The strategy is aimed at achieving a high quality of life for people in seven regions – the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Crimea, Krasnodar Territory, Zaporizhia, Rostov and Kherson regions, as well as the creation of a new tourism and recreational industry in these territories, and the restoration of fisheries.
The main mechanism for its implementation will be an action plan that includes projects to ensure growth in key areas of the economy, develop transport, housing, communal services and engineering infrastructure, the tourism industry, reduce pollution and increase the biopotential of the Sea of Azov, create an integrated fishing and fish farming system, and improve the environmental situation in general.
One of the primary tasks is to study the condition of the water area of both the Sea of Azov itself and other bodies of water, as well as to clear and strengthen the coastline. It provides for the creation of monitoring systems to reduce the level of wastewater pollution in the Azov Sea basin, improve the condition of specially protected natural areas, build, modernize and reconstruct sewage treatment plants and storm sewers, and reduce the negative impact on water bodies from liquidated coal mines.
In addition, a lot of work is planned to create a new tourist and recreational infrastructure and develop sanatorium-resort organizations so that the Azov coast becomes a center for family and children's recreation and recreation.
The President instructed the Government to approve the Strategy for the Sustainable Development of the Azov Sea region for the period up to 2040 and the action plan for its implementation following a meeting of the supervisory board of the autonomous non-profit organization Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects in 2024.
"The Head of State emphasized that the strategy should be closely linked to national projects and other documents for the socio-economic development of Russian regions," Mikhail Mishustin recalled at a meeting with deputy prime ministers on January 12, adding that it was important to strictly monitor the implementation of the strategy's implementation plan in order to solve the tasks set on time.
