The volume of electric generation in Russia in January-February 2024 increased by 5.2% compared to the same period in 2023 to 227.2 billion. kWh.

This is stated in issue No. 1569 of the monthly bulletin "Branches of the Russian economy: production, finance, securities. Electric Power Industry" dated April 15, 2024.

Such data was published by Rosstat. And Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Evgeny Grabchak said that electricity consumption in Russia increased by 5.78% from the beginning of the year to March 18, excluding the temperature factor and adjusted for the calendar factor. The planned volume of electricity consumption in both OREM price zones in January-February exceeded the figure for the same period last year by 6.44%, amounting to 196.8 million kWh.

In 2023, 540 GW of new renewable energy capacity was introduced worldwide. Such data was provided by the International Energy Agency. The acceleration of the pace of solar energy introduction looks particularly noticeable: the volume of capacities launched in 2023 amounted to a record 420 GW against 228 GW in 2022 and 171 GW in 2021. In China, the volume of commissioning of solar photovoltaic systems in 2023 increased 2.5 times (to 261 GW; this is noticeably more than half of the global volume). In the USA, the expansion of the use of solar energy remains restrained (in 2023, the volume of commissioned capacities amounted to 32 GW, in 2022 — 21 GW).

According to the results of the first quarter of 2024, electricity exports from Russia are projected at the level of 2.1 billion. kWh. Such information was provided by Alexandra Panina, a representative of Inter RAO. According to her, in January-February, electricity supplies to China decreased by 75% year-on-year. At the same time, supplies to Kazakhstan increased by 20%, and to Mongolia by half. Supplies to China have been reduced due to restrictions caused by a shortage of electricity in the Russian Far East, which is caused by an overall increase in energy consumption in the region with low water availability and a high accident rate of generating equipment. The export volume expected in the first quarter is slightly higher than the indicator of the company's business plan, but lower than last year's figures.

Rosatom can build at least two floating power units for the energy supply of the Primorsky Territory. Such data was reported to the press by the Minister of Energy of the Primorsky Territory Andrey Leontiev. According to him, the project of floating power units will be carried out in parallel with the work on the project of a large onshore nuclear power plant in the region. The parties will work out issues related to determining the parameters of the project for the creation of electric power generation facilities based on floating power units for the development of a feasibility study, determining the optimal location of the PEB, financial, economic and technical parameters. In total, the construction of up to five floating blocks in the south-east and south-west of Primorsky Krai is being considered. Three power units can be installed near the city of Fokino for the development of industrial enterprises, one unit — in the Khasansky district near the city of Slavyanka for the power supply of tourist facilities. The fifth power unit will be a replacement unit to replace the existing ones during the overload of nuclear fuel.
