The French transport company CMA CGM Group intends to buy out the assets of the American division of FedEx Supply Chain for $ 1.4 billion. This is reported in the press release of the CMA.

From the point of view of CMA management, "the transaction, which is expected to be completed in 2026, will almost triple the scale of operations of the CEVA Logistics subsidiary in the field of contract logistics in North America."

In addition, CMA expects to take over 150 warehouses and increase the staff of CEVA Logistics in the USA to 20 thousand employees. Upon completion of the transaction, CMA CGM and FedEx intend to conclude long-term commercial agreements in the field of air and sea transportation until 2028.

The deal is in line with CMA CGM's strategy to diversify its business beyond container shipping into the logistics and freight transportation sectors, including warehouse handling, order fulfillment and return of goods. The company is actively developing areas of logistics and air transportation in order to reduce dependence on the cyclical nature of sea cargo transportation.

The agreement allows FedEx Corp. Focus on the core parcel delivery business, which has changed significantly due to the combination of land and air cargo transportation and cost reduction. FedEx may continue to restructure assets after the separation of the freight trucking segment of FedEx Freight into a separate company.

Additional pressure on the shipping business is exerted by a change in US trade policy. The introduction of new tariffs and the abolition of duty-free regime for cheap online parcels from China, including goods from Shein and Temu sites, have already affected shipping volumes, taking into account long-term partnerships with Chinese shipping companies.

In 2025, CMA CGM management announced plans to invest $20 billion in the development of marine infrastructure, logistics and terminals in the United States over four years to reduce vulnerability to Donald Trump's trade and maritime policies.

FedEx Supply Chain provides third-party logistics services for large retail chains. The division specializes in order fulfillment, warehouse operations management, and product return processing.
