MTS PJSC Subscribers have access to Russia's first large-scale 5G gigabit network in the 4.9 GHz band in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Ufa. This is stated in the company's message.
The mobile network with a peak data transfer rate of up to 1.5 Gbit/sec operates on the basis of 46 former test zones. The company is also launching a new communication standard in the 2100 MHz band on existing LTE frequencies in cities with a population of one million and regional centers, including the first such networks in 16 cities.
On August 31, 2026, the State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCR) decided to allocate 5G frequencies in the range of 4.63-4.99 GHz to the "big Four" telecom operators and allowed the use of LTE frequencies in the new standard. On September 11, the Big Four operators launched 5G networks in Russia. MTS has turned on its fifth-generation networks from Novosibirsk.
With the federal launch of the new standard, MTS has provided users of 5G smartphones with support for the 4.9 GHz band with the ability to freely connect at speeds up to 1.5 Gbit/s to the 5G network operating in popular locations in Moscow (23 locations), St. Petersburg and Kronstadt (20 locations), Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Ufa (one location each). Previously, at the test stage, subscribers were invited to this 5G network selectively.
MTS has also begun the phased launch of 5G networks at the current LTE frequencies of 2100 MHz in places with the highest concentration of subscribers in the central regions of most cities with millions and regional centers of Russia based on the principle of technological neutrality.
On September 11, MTS turned on the first such networks in 16 cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Ufa, Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, Vologda, Murmansk, Petrozavodsk, Syktyvkar, Pskov, Anapa, Velikiye Luki and Ukhta.
Since 2022, the company has invested more than 50 billion rubles in infrastructure preparation for the new standard alone. This year, the company's total investments in the development of networks and technologies increased 1.5 times year-on-year to 47 billion rubles, and next year they will increase by another 20% to 57 billion rubles.
PJSC Mobile TeleSystems (MTS, TIN 7740000076), together with its subsidiaries, serves about 100 million cellular subscribers. The authorized capital of MTS is 199.84 million rubles (1998381575 outstanding ordinary registered shares).
