The market of carbon units creates the necessary basis for industry and production. This was stated by Natalia Tretyak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the carbon unit registry operator Kontur JSC, First Vice President of Gazprombank, during the Climate Change session at the ECUMENE 2022 Global Financial Forum.
"According to experts, on the horizon of seven to eight years, the volume of the voluntary market of carbon units will increase by about 25 times. I think that the Russian Federation can talk about the possibility of achieving sufficiently high rates in this area," N. Tretyak noted.
"The carbon units market combines two positive qualities. On the one hand, this mechanism allows to reduce the volume of emissions and increase the absorption of greenhouse gases, which have a significant impact on the change in temperature on Earth, on the other hand, the mechanism has an economic basis, allowing it to be cost–effective, and also creates the necessary basis for the modernization of industry and production, thereby increasing their efficiency.",– she said.
