Tbilisi City Hall to buy metro cars from Metrovagonmash for 49 million euros

Tbilisi City Hall will purchase subway cars from the Russian company Metrovagonmash. The decision has been made, and the contract will not be terminated. This is reported by bm.ge .

According to the Vice-Mayor of Tbilisi, the terms of the contract with the Russian company that won the EBRD tender announced in 2021 have been changed. Irakli Khmaladze explained that the changes were made due to avoiding the financial risks of the customer, that is, the Tbilisi City Hall.

Metrovagonmash is to deliver 44 wagons worth 49.19 million euros to the capital. The purchase price in lari is 172 million lari.

Metrovagonmash won in December 2021 in the tender announced by the EBRD for the purchase of new cars by the Tbilisi Metro. The Tbilisi City Hall and the Tbilisi Transport Company are financing the project with an EBRD loan, and along with the purchase of new wagons, the tunnel connecting the depot and the Saburtalo line should be rehabilitated.
