The volume of electric generation in Russia in the first quarter of 2026 increased by 1.8% compared to the same period in 2025 to 332.5 billion kWh. This was facilitated by the lower average temperatures of last winter.

Fedor Opadchy, head of the Unified Energy System System Operator, said that in the first quarter, electricity consumption in the country increased by 2.1% compared to January-March 2025. The forecast for energy consumption growth for the entire current year remains unchanged, with an expected increase of 2.2%.
58 countries intend to triple the world's nuclear capacity by 2050, and 50 countries have included nuclear energy in their long-term energy mix. This statement was made by the Director General of the World Nuclear Association, Sama Bilbao y Leon, at the Energy Week of Uzbekistan UEW-2026. According to her, in 2025, global electricity generation from nuclear power plants reached a record level. Currently, 79 new power units are being built in countries with developed nuclear energy and in countries that are beginning to develop this field.
The volume of electricity exports from Russia in the first quarter of 2026 increased by 5.8% to 2.12 billion kWh. Such data was reported by PJSC Inter RAO. Most of the shipments were to Kazakhstan and Georgia, and there were no export operations to China in the first quarter. At the same time, electricity imports decreased by 3.7% to 520 million kWh. The company is closely monitoring Kazakhstan's plans to abandon electricity imports from Russia starting in 2027. For 2026, PJSC Inter RAO plans supplies to Kazakhstan at the level of 2025.
Power unit No. 1 of Kursk NPP-2 was put into operation and began to supply electricity to the grid. The new status was preceded by a period of pilot operation, following which, on April 27, 2026, Rostechnadzor issued an opinion on the compliance of the facility with the design documentation, as well as current technical regulations and energy efficiency requirements. Revenue for power and electricity from power unit No. 1 of Kursk NPP-2 with a VVER-TOI reactor unit with a capacity of 1,252 MW will amount to a total of 11 billion rubles per month.
