The number of employees of Udokan Copper in 2021 increased by 70% compared to 2020. Such data are provided in the sustainability report for 2021, the company said.

A significant increase in the number of staff is due to the active involvement of employees for the implementation of a large-scale construction program, as well as the expansion of the operational directorate. The total number of employees of contractors employed at the construction site at the end of 2021 amounted to more than 4 thousand people.

In 2021, Udokan Copper invested 764 million rubles in social projects and programs of the Trans-Baikal Territory, including environmental protection measures, against the background of the company's preparations for the start of commercial production at the field. In the period from 2019 to 2021, no deaths were recorded at the Udokan Copper enterprises, while the total number of registered incidents decreased from 23 in 2020 to 14 in 2021, which was facilitated by measures introduced by the company — such as encouraging employees for safe working conditions and training personnel in safety.

Udokan Copper was established in 2008 to implement the Udokan copper deposit development project. It is part of the multi-profile holding company USM. The Udokan deposit with copper resources of more than 26 million tons is the largest new deposit in Russia. The copper content according to the JORC Code is 1.05%.

The deposit is located in the Kalarsky District of the Trans-Baikal Territory in the Far East of Russia, 30 km from the Novaya Chara station of the Baikal-Amur Mainline. Within the framework of the project, a mining and metallurgical plant will be put into operation, the final products of which will be cathode copper and sulfide concentrate. The production volume will be 135 thousand tons of copper per year.
