Vladimir Putin appointed A.Khinshtein acting Governor of the Kursk region

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Alexander Khinshtein as acting governor of the Kursk Region. The relevant decree of the head of state is posted on the Kremlin's website.

Alexey Smirnov has prematurely resigned from the post of governor of the region.

"In connection with the statement of the Governor of the Kursk region A.B. Smirnov on early termination of powers <...>, I decide to appoint Alexander Yevseevich Khinstein as acting governor of the Kursk region until the person elected governor of the Kursk region takes office," the decree says.

A.Khinshtein was a deputy of the State Duma from the United Russia Party in 2003-2016 and in 2018-2024. Since 2019, he has served as Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption. In January 2020, he became Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications.
