Sber has joined the UN Global Compact, the world's largest voluntary initiative of leaders to develop, introduce, and communicate the best corporate sustainable development practices. As a UN Global Compact member, Sber commits to be guided in its operations by the Ten Principles which are to respect human rights, ensure decent labor conditions, protect the environment, and combat corruption. Sber bank also undertakes to promote the Ten Principles.
Incorporating the UN Global Compact principles into commercial and business strategies, while publicly reaffirming commitment to the 2030 Agenda, are now widely recognized as signs of responsible corporate practices and a good business reputation, being crucial for long-term corporate sustainability.
The UN Global Compact is the second initiative that Sber has joined year-to-date after embracing UNEP FI: Principles for Responsible Banking. ESG-transformation is Sber's recognized choice outlined in its new Strategy 2023. Sber acknowledges the importance of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and will strive to contribute to them in any way it can.
We are making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of our strategy, culture and day-to-day operations. This is in addition to our collaborative projects with other organizations. Joining the initiative will support the ESG transformation of Sber's business, and we hope that our partners will also commit, as it will benefit a more sustainable development of the country in general.
The UN Global Compact is a call to companies worldwide to align their strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
Initiated in 2000, the UN Global Compact is now the world's largest global corporate sustainability initiative including 9,500+ participating companies and 3,000 non-business participants in over 160 countries, and more than 70 local networks.
