Roslesinforge has developed a carbon calculator that will calculate by itself how many trees and what species need to be planted, and how much it will cost to compensate for the carbon footprint of one industrial enterprise. Calculations can be made for an oil refinery, cement and aluminum plant, a pulp and paper mill and a chemical fertilizer plant. To do this, you need to specify the volume of products that the company produces per year, as well as the distance to which the products are transported.

To create an online service, Roslesinforg specialists analyzed a large amount of data on the most common sources of emissions and developed their own algorithm for calculating the carbon footprint for "dirty" industries. The experts also used data on forests and their absorption capacity on the example of an already implemented forest climate project on Sakhalin.

The development will help to assess whether the organization falls under the law "On limiting greenhouse gas emissions".

In general, the greenhouse effect is a necessary and useful joke. It prevents us from dying of cold at night and cooking alive during the day, keeping a comfortable temperature on the surface of the earth. But the development of industry is changing the balance, increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, heating the planet beyond necessity.  In the absence of proper measures, this is fraught with disorganization of the global economy. First, we are waiting for sea level rise, migration of the world's population, and then water shortages, drought, crop decline, extinction of plants and animals, and eventually the death of tens of millions of people from hunger.

Every year, Russian forests absorb about a third of the amount of greenhouse gases that are emitted on the territory of our country during the same period. But climate stabilization will require a more significant reduction in emissions.

The carbon footprint stretches behind each of us like a shadow. But if everything is clear with people, the average for the world is 5 tons per person, depending on how a person eats, where he lives and how he moves. The main threat comes from enterprises that "exhale" greenhouse gases into the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and some others. Carbon dioxide has the greatest impact on global warming, its contribution is approximately 75%. Methane is in second place, but unlike carbon dioxide, its absorption or removal from the atmosphere lasts on average 12 years.
The main source of emissions is the burning of coal, oil and other carbon fuels to generate electricity and heating.

Metallurgy, the chemical industry, energy, agriculture, banking, IT and telecommunications, the construction industry, urban economy and housing and communal services, the operation of automotive, aviation and rocket engines also contribute to global warming.

It is not easy to correctly calculate the carbon footprint left by a specific industrial facility due to a huge number of factors. To create the system, Roslesinforg specialists analyzed a large amount of data on the most common sources of emissions. Enter the data about the company into an intuitive calculator for calculating the carbon footprint, after which the algorithm will calculate the amount of annual emissions, how to level it using trees and how much it will cost, and inform whether reporting is required. You can also get recommendations on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to achieve carbon neutrality on the portal.
