Severstal in 2022 reduced the total amount of pollutants into the atmosphere by 21% to 370 thousand tons compared to a year earlier. This was mainly due to the reduction of emissions from the Severstal Resource division (-41% to 123 thousand tons) as a result of the sale of Vorkutaugol on April 29, 2022. This is stated in the company's message.

The total volume of emissions in the Severstal Russian Steel division decreased by 5% to 247 thousand tons due to the implementation of a number of projects in accordance with the federal Clean Air program.

Specific emissions per ton of steel increased by 3% to 22.6 kg/t due to suboptimal utilization of steel production capacity as a result of forced production cuts due to changing market conditions.

Severstal is a vertically integrated steel and mining company with assets in Russia, Latvia and Poland.
