By May 15, all regions of the country will be ready for the fire season. This is stated in the message of the Federal Forestry Agency.
Since March 1, 2024, Russia has been conducting unscheduled inspections of the regions' readiness for the fire season. The Republic of Khakassia, Kaliningrad, Kirov and Omsk regions are all ready. Not ready - Khabarovsk Territory, Kurgan, Murmansk regions, EAO, Altai Republic and Mari El.
"To date, 10 regions of the country are not ready for the fire season, and I remind you that we are already approaching the spring peak of burning in the forests, which is expected from May 10 to 20. The deadline for the subjects to correct the situation is May 15. The regions need to accelerate as much as possible and put all their forest fire forces and means on high alert so as not to repeat the mistakes of previous years and pass the whole season with dignity," said the head of the Federal Forestry Agency I.Advisers, quoted in the message.
The main reasons for the violations identified during the inspections are the shortage of forest fire units, faulty equipment and the lack of air patrol contracts.
