The net profit of Russian banks in February 2023 amounted to 293 billion rubles. This is 14% higher than the previous month. The return on capital in annual terms was more than 29%. This is reported in the materials of the Bank of Russia.
The profit growth was influenced by a positive currency revaluation against the background of the weakening of the ruble (+140 billion rubles after -33 billion rubles in January).
In January-February 2023, banks earned 551 billion rubles. However, without taking into account the currency revaluation, the result would amount to 440 billion rubles, the regulator emphasizes.
The number of profitable banks in February decreased to 246 (75% of the total) from 263 in January 2023 (81%). The share of profitable banks in the sector's assets decreased to 94% from 98%.
In two months of this year, the number of profitable banks increased to 264 (81% of the total), their share in the assets of the sector decreased to 94%.
