In Russia, on March 1, unscheduled inspections of the readiness of subjects for the 2024 fire season began. First of all, the staffing of forest fire brigades and the readiness of special equipment for the season will be inspected. The fire season is open in 7 regions of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Federal Forestry Agency.

"Winter has officially ended and the first forest fires are being recorded in Primorsky, Krasnodar Territories, Udmurtia and Sverdlovsk region. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 14 forest fires on the order of 1 thousand hectares. At the same time, the ISDM-Rosleskhoz space monitoring system registers the occurrence of heat points in 9 subjects of the Central Federal District, Southern Federal District, North Caucasus Federal District and Far Eastern Federal District. Most of these are fires on agricultural lands and other categories that have arisen due to non–compliance with fire safety rules. The heads of the regions should keep the situation under special control, promptly introduce fire protection regimes and make appropriate management decisions in a timely manner," said Alexey Venglinsky, Deputy head of the Federal Forestry Agency, quoted in the message.

The number of forest fires that have occurred since the beginning of 2024 is comparable to 2023, and the area covered by fire is almost 900 hectares less, the report emphasizes.
