Canadian oil and gas company Enbridge Inc. and American energy company Energy Transfer LP plan to increase the pipeline capacity in Illinois in order to expand Canadian products to new markets in the Midwest and the American Gulf Coast. This is reported in a press release from Enbridge.
The parties to the deal are promoting a project called the Southern Illinois Connector, which will transport up to 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day through reconfiguration and modernization of systems, as well as the creation of a new segment amid increased production capacity.
The project provides for the construction of a new pipeline connecting the oil hubs of Wood River and Patoka, taking into account the growing oil production in Canada by 680 thousand barrels per day by 2035 due to the development of oil sands.
The Southern Illinois Connector pipeline will transport Canadian crude to the Energy Transfer Crude pipeline in Patoka and on to the terminal in Nederland, Texas, servicing refineries.
The deadline for submitting applications from potential shippers is set until July 18, 2025.
