The AK&M rating agency has presented the sixth carbon footprint rating of the largest Russian companies.
57 companies participated in the rating. Data for 2025 was used for calculations.
The rating is based on the ranking of the indicator of specific greenhouse gas emissions by companies and for each company shows how many greenhouse gases enter the atmosphere during production at a cost of 1 million rubles. It is calculated as the ratio of greenhouse gas emissions per year to annual consolidated revenue.
For the industry rating, only direct emissions of carbon-containing gases are taken into account.
For the largest holdings, the carbon footprint is calculated based on the summation of direct (coverage 1) and indirect (coverage 2) greenhouse gas emissions.
Total emissions better characterize the activities of companies to combat climate change. However, calculations show that, from an industry perspective, the assessment of total emissions and emissions of direct greenhouse gases alone does not change the position of companies in the ranking, with the exception of companies in the communications and information technology industries. Not all companies still calculate indirect emissions, and there are discrepancies in the calculations. Therefore, the Agency continues to build industry carbon footprint ratings based on specific emissions of direct greenhouse gases only. For large holdings with different industry specialization and a well-established accounting system, the rating is calculated for the second year based on total greenhouse gas emissions.
Companies are ranked according to the increasing indicator of specific greenhouse gas emissions. The lower the indicator, the higher the company's position in the rating.
The source of information is the companies' public sustainability reports and consolidated financial statements, as well as data obtained from the organizations themselves through questionnaires.
