Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) intends to make staff cuts and close the BioWare role-playing game development studio. This is reported by foreign media with reference to representatives of the company.
Electronic Arts plans to cut 400 jobs (3% of the total), including 50 at the BioWare studio, as well as investments in research and development to save up to $700 million. At the same time, EA will continue to invest in the development of sports games, the online shooter Apex Legends and adventure projects, as well as the Battlefield franchise.
In 2007, EA acquired BioWare, which has released a number of popular role-playing games based on the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises, but has faced difficulties in recent years due to low sales of Dragon Age.: The Veilguard.
In August, EA became a private company after the asset purchase by the Saudi Investment Fund (PIF) for $55 billion. The consortium of buyers also included Silver Lake Management and Affinity Partners, founded by Jared Kushner.
The deal took place against the backdrop of weak growth in the video game industry with a total value of $178 billion. At the beginning of 2025, Electronic Arts reduced a large number of employees.
Electronic Arts is an American public multinational corporation in the field of digital interactive entertainment. The company develops and sells video games (Madden NFL, Battlefield, etc.), content, and online services for Internet-connected consoles, mobile devices, and personal computers. EA is headquartered in Redwood City, California.
