In July 2024, Russian mechanical engineering saw growth for the seventeenth month in a row. Total production in the five engineering industries was 14.8% higher than in July 2023. At the same time, production growth rates increased compared to June.

This is stated in issue No. 1590 of the monthly bulletin "Branches of the Russian economy: production, finance, securities. Mechanical Engineering" dated September 9, 2024.

In general, according to Rosstat, over the seven months of 2024, the total turnover of enterprises in all sectors of mechanical engineering increased significantly by 41.5% compared to the same period in 2023. Also in July of this year, Rosstat recorded a significant increase in industrial production in four of the five engineering sectors in annual dynamics. The production of electronics increased at the highest rate. It follows from the EDB report that in the first half of the year, mechanical engineering increased output by 22%.

In the first half of the year, China invested more in chip manufacturing than South Korea, Taiwan and the United States combined. According to the economic publication Nikkei Asia, the country has already invested $25 billion. new semiconductor manufacturing facilities and equipment in the first six months of 2024. None of the other mentioned countries spent more than $12 billion over the same period. According to forecasts, these figures are likely to grow even more: by the end of the year, experts expect China to spend a total of $50 billion. for internal and external capacities.

An electric motor plant has started operating in the Kaliningrad Region. The production capacity of the plant is designed to produce 60 thousand electric motors per year. The range of products includes electric motors with a capacity from 23 kW to 140 kW for various types of passenger electric vehicles. Currently, the plant has started producing a test batch of electric motors. The engineering and technical staff and workers of the enterprise have received special training. The commissioning of the production line has been carried out. Long—term development plans include expanding the range of electric motors that can be used for small electric vehicles, lifting equipment, and boat transport.

Serial production of new generation buses under the Sollers brand has started at a factory in Vladivostok. Two models were put on the assembly line — the flagship tourist bus Sollers SA9 and the intercity bus Sollers SA6. Currently, an assembly and test lines are organized at the production site. It is planned that the company will produce up to 1.5 thousand buses per year. The project involves a step-by-step deepening of localization. The start of sales is scheduled for December 2024.
