Italy's state-owned railway company Ferrovie dello Stato SpA intends to sell minority stakes in RFI's high-speed train division. This is reported in a Ferrovie press release.

Ferrovie's management plans to create a new company based on the RFI division, which will increase the value of assets to 70 billion euros over 10 years by expanding ownership of some of the main railway lines in Italy.

Currently, the value of RFI is estimated at 8 billion euros ($9.4 billion) with revenue of more than 16 billion euros and 97,000 employees.

Ferrovie aims to improve the country's transport links through an ambitious project worth 100 billion euros over five years, and some other major projects funded by the European Union Foundation with the support of foreign funds and local companies.

Ferrovie has developed a project to expand transportation beyond Italy, including the creation of a high-speed railway system on the European continent. Currently, high-speed Frecciarossa trains run to Paris, Marseille and Lyon. In 2026, it is planned to connect Rome and Milan with Munich, by 2028 with Berlin and Naples, and in 2029 with London.

The newly established international divisions of the company have combined branches in Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Great Britain and France.

Ferrovie is the operator of the Italian railway network. The company operates 17,000 km of railway tracks and is headquartered in Rome, Italy.
