Seven&i Holdings Co. is considering the possibility of selling part of its assets to SoftBank Corp. and PayPay Corp. in order to accelerate profit growth. This is reported by foreign media.

As part of a potential deal, Seven&I may change its strategy aimed at maintaining independence to a more promising expansion of its presence in the payment infrastructure and AI sector.

A potential deal could include investments worth several hundred billion yen. At the same time, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group may also join the deal through the Sumitomo Mitsui Card credit card division.

As part of the deal, the investments will strengthen the link between Japanese technology, digital payments, and retail, with the aim of bringing together consumer data, financial services, and retail networks.

SoftBank, one of Japan's largest technology groups, has expanded its presence in the digital services and financial technology sector, and PayPay has become one of the leading mobile payment platforms in Japan.

The possible investment reflects broader trends in Japan's corporate sector, where partnerships between retailers, technology companies, and financial providers are becoming important for the development of integrated consumer ecosystems.
