In Russia, 7.84 billion tons of production and consumption waste were generated in 2025, which is 8.6% less than in 2024. This is stated in the message of Rosprirodnadzor.

Thus, 3.87 billion tons were deposited, 1.87 billion tons were disposed of, 1.89 billion tons were buried, and 9.8 million tons were neutralized.

The decrease in the total volume of waste is due, among other things, to changes in legislation: starting in 2023, overburden can be used in economic activities and not counted as waste, and in some cases, the substances formed can be attributed to by-products.

More than half of all waste - 56% - falls on four regions: Kemerovo Region - almost 28%, Yakutia - 12%, Krasnoyarsk Territory - about 10% and Sakhalin Region - over 6%. Extractive industries and metallurgy continue to make the main contribution.

In 2025, 46.4 million tons of municipal solid waste were generated. According to regional and MSW management operators, 63% of them are residential. 25.48 million tons of municipal waste were sent for processing, 4.6 million tons were disposed of, 1.12 million tons were neutralized, and 37.75 million tons were buried.
