More than 10 thousand books in Yandex Books received the covers generated by the visual neural network YandexART. The new design will help draw the audience's attention to classic works, and those readers who are already familiar with them will be able to rediscover them for themselves. Selected covers are available via the link, and you can view the entire collection using the "Free" tag.

The neural network has issued books with the status of public domain. Among them are works of Russian classics — "Eugene Onegin" by Alexander Pushkin, "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy, "Fathers and Children" by Ivan Turgenev — as well as foreign masterpieces: "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexander Dumas, "Faust" by Johann Wolfgang Goethe and "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll..

Daria Angelo, Marketing Director of Yandex Books

We regularly do projects that stimulate interest in the classics and emphasize its relevance. According to our research, 18% of the respondents take the cover into account when choosing a printed book. We believe that this is an important factor for e-books as well. Most recently, we launched the project "100 covers from 100 Yandex designers", thanks to which the most popular classic books received covers in a unique and recognizable style. The next stage was the project with YandexART, which covered books that had previously been on the service without covers. We combine the work of specialists and the capabilities of technology to ensure that books receive more attention from the audience.

YandexGPT helped to come up with designs for creating covers. Based on the book's title, genre, and annotation, she generated several image descriptions, and YandexART offered image options. In addition, the designers of Yandex Books have developed a special color system. Depending on the category the book fell into — classics, non-fiction, children's literature or cultural heritage — the color scheme and style were selected.

Thanks to the YandexART neural network, we were able to create cover illustrations for a large number of books. We believe that this will enrich the content of the service and improve the user experience. Technology can not only facilitate the work of designers and other professionals, but also provide unique opportunities for businesses. Companies are already using YandexART to create logos, product labels, illustrations for websites and social networks, as well as to improve the effectiveness of their advertising and marketing campaigns.

The covers generated by the neural network are marked in Yandex Books with a special bar. If there are inaccuracies in the image, users can report them to the support service.
