American investor Stephen Lynch has applied to the US government for permission to participate in the proposed tender for the sale of the damaged Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This is reported by foreign media.
From the point of view of S. Lynch, the acquisition of ownership of the pipeline can have a significant impact on the outcome of possible peace negotiations with Russia on the military conflict in Ukraine in the interests of the United States and control over Europe's energy supply, since Nord Stream 2 will be actively used after the end of the Ukrainian conflict, regardless of affiliation.
In February 2024, S. Lynch applied to the US Treasury Department for a license that would allow negotiations on the purchase of infrastructure with organizations under sanctions. The cost of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is estimated at 11 billion rubles.
S. Lynch believes that investors are unlikely to apply for Nord Stream 2 due to the difficult geopolitical situation.
After the explosion of the gas pipeline, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office sent additional requests to the United States, Germany, France and Cyprus on terrorist attacks committed against the interests of the Russian Federation and its citizens, including the explosions of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in September 2022, but did not receive an adequate response.
S. Lynch has been doing business in Moscow for 20 years and is a partner and founder of the investment company Monte Valle Partners, which in 2007 bought out Yukos Finance, a subsidiary of Yukos, registered in the Netherlands.
