German power equipment manufacturer Siemens Energy intends to invest 220 million euros in the expansion of the transformer plant in Nuremberg (Germany). This is reported in a press release from Siemens Energy.
The project corresponds to a sharp increase in demand for large transformers, which are crucial for ensuring the reliability of power grids and the expansion of the power grid, as they are located in almost every node of the power grid, connecting different voltage levels and allowing the transmission of electricity over long distances. The transformers produced in Nuremberg are used in large-scale energy infrastructure projects to connect large offshore wind farms, stabilize power grids, or support international transmission lines that provide energy exchange between countries.
As part of the project, production capacity at the Siemens Energy plant in Nuremberg will be increased by 50% by 2028 without shutting down production. The Bavarian government is ready to invest 20 million euros in order to strengthen Nuremberg as a center of innovation, research and development.
In 2024, Siemens Energy invested 90 million euros in the construction of a new converter plant in Nuremberg. In total, over the past three years, Siemens Energy has invested about 1 billion euros in the German economy. In 2024, the company created about 1,300 new jobs and intends to increase their number by another 1,500 by the end of 2026.
Siemens Energy is a German company manufacturing equipment for the energy industry. The company was founded in April 2020 as part of the separation of the energy division from the Siemens group into an independent company. The headquarters is located in Munich.
