The Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri SpA has signed an agreement to acquire controlling stakes in four companies in the field of underwater technology development. This is reported in a Fincantieri press release.

The deal includes the assets of Next Geosolutions Europe SpA in the field of marine research and geophysics, the underwater communications operator WSense, the developer of underwater UAVs Graal Tech and the manufacturer of unmanned boats Defcomm.

The transaction value is 600 million euros ($685 million). The deal will double the revenue of Fincantieri's underwater division to 1.1 billion euros per year, expand opportunities in the sector of marine drones, underwater communications, geophysical services, as well as defense and dual-use commercial operations.

The four companies will be integrated into the Fincantieri Underwater Technology Center, which will bring together a total of eight companies and act as an international operator of solutions in the underwater technology sector.

The investment strengthens Fincantieri's position in the segment of underwater technologies for the protection of ports, underwater cables and pipelines. In 2025, Fincantieri acquired the division Leonardo SpA for the construction of WASS submarines.

Fincantieri previously entered into an agreement with Eni S.p.A. for the joint development of the Clean Sea technological underwater monitoring system, which is designed to monitor marine ecosystems and underwater infrastructure, including checking for operational failures. The technology will be integrated with various autonomous platforms and unmanned systems developed by the Fincantieri Group.

Fincantieri is one of the world's largest companies in the construction of cruise liners, naval and offshore vessels, and the development of underwater vehicles. Fincantieri operates a network of 18 shipyards and 24,000 employees and has know-how, expertise and management centers in Italy. The headquarters is located in Trieste (Italy).

Next Geosolutions is a joint venture between Italian entrepreneurs and the Marnavi shipping company in the sector of marine renewable energy, offshore oil and gas industry and underwater cable networks.
