The Swiss retailer Migros-Genossenschaft-Bund (MGB) has attracted investment banks as part of the proposed sale of the cosmetics company Mibelle Group and the travel platform Hotelplan, the total value of which is about $1 billion. This is reported in the Migros press release.
In particular, Alantra Partners is looking for potential buyers for the shares of Mibelle Group, a manufacturer of cosmetics and personal care products for the retail trade. The cost of Mibelle, which is also the owner of the South Korean skin care brand Dr. G, is estimated at 500 million Swiss francs ($557 million).
The proposed deal has attracted interest from private investment companies, and the sale process may be launched in the fall of 2024.
In addition, Migros has engaged Houlihan Lokey Inc. as the organizer of a potential sale of the Hotelplan Group worth 400 million Swiss francs. Hotelplan owns Switzerland's largest tour operator Hotelplan Suisse and other brands in the tourism sector. In 2023, sales amounted to 1.7 billion Swiss francs.
The potential sale of Mibelle Group and Hotelplan is part of a broader restructuring of Migros, which intends to focus on its core supermarket business to counter competitors in the online retail sector.
In June 2024, Migros decided to sell 20 of the 37 electronics stores to Mediamarkt and close the remaining 17. At the same time, the German shoe retailer Deichmann Group acquires several SportX stores owned by Migros. Migros has also initiated the process of finding buyers for specialty stores Micasa, Do it + Garden and Bike World.
Migros is the largest retail company in Switzerland with a wide supermarket chain. The company is one of the forty largest retailers in the world. Migros was one of the founders of the large retailer Migros Turk in Turkey, which became independent in 1975. The headquarters is located in Zurich (Switzerland).
