About 92 million tons of textile waste appear in the world every year. The global production of clothing increased by 2 times from 2000 to 2015, and the duration of its use decreased by 36%. This is stated in the UN report.

The textile manufacturing sector is heavily dependent on synthetic fibers, which are produced from fossil fuels. Over time, they break down into microplastics. Discarded clothes often end up in countries of the Global South, where huge landfills occur. This leads to serious environmental and social consequences.

Solving this problem requires systemic changes based on sustainable cyclical production, repair and reuse. Waste-free production should play a major role in this.
