Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported the proposal to postpone repayment of the regions' debt on budget loans from 2026 to a later date. The head of state stated this at a meeting with members of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation, according to a transcript posted on the Kremlin's website.

"United Russia has come up with an initiative with a proposal to postpone repayment of the regions' debt on budget loans from the current year, 2026, to a later date. Let's do that. I ask the Government, deputies and senators not to delay the implementation of this decision," Putin stressed.

The President of the Russian Federation recalled that earlier it was decided to write off two thirds of the debt of the subjects of the Federation on budget loans. Such write-off is possible provided that the funds released from the regions are allocated for investment and other significant purposes. We are talking about an amount of over 1 trillion rubles for the period up to 2030.

"I repeat: two thirds of the debt on budget loans is being written off. The remaining part of the debt is carefully repaid by the regions on time. This year it is about 100 billion rubles. But for many regions, this current burden is quite high, we know that," Putin explained.
