The conclusions of October 19 of the Primorsky branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "National Center for the Safety of Fish and Agricultural Products of the Agro-industrial Complex" ("APK NATSRYBA") subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor confirmed western flower trips in 4.4 thousand slices of green carnations, daisies and delphiniums from China.
The inspection of three batches of flowers (320.1 thousand in total) was carried out by the Primorsky Interregional Rosselkhoznadzor Administration at the phytosanitary control post "Pogranichny". During the inspection, the inspectors selected plant samples with stripes, dots on the leaves, and deformed buds. The flowers were transferred to the Primorsky branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution APK NATSRYBA for research.
The samples were tested for pathogens and pests according to 97 indicators by the Ussuriysk laboratory of the branch. As a result, western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Pergande) was confirmed in the flowers from each batch — slices of green carnation (2.4 thousand pieces), daisies (1.5 thousand pieces) and delphiniums (500 pieces).
The Primorsky Interregional Rosselkhoznadzor Administration prohibits the import of contaminated flower products.
This year, the Primorsky branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution APK NATSRYBA confirmed western flower trips in flower products from China 135 times, 973.4 thousand sections of fresh flowers were affected by the pest.

Western flower thrips is a quarantine pest that multiplies rapidly and is resistant to pesticides. Thrips are carriers of plant viruses.
