Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) became the winner of the annual National Award in the field of environmental technologies "ECOTECH-LEADER 2023". In the nomination "Construction and operation of sewage treatment plants", the project of modernization of the bioengineered wastewater treatment system of the Seversky Pipe Plant (STZ), part of TMK, which is designed to provide more stable and efficient wastewater treatment, won.
The applicants for the award included companies that presented solutions for technological modernization of production and its environmental safety, introduction of the best available technologies, rational use of natural resources, development of environmental protection programs and minimization of environmental pollution. The projects were studied by leading experts in the field of ecology.
The Expert Council of the award highly appreciated the TMK project submitted for the competition on the modernization of the wastewater treatment system at the STZ. The system is a series of biological ponds arranged in a certain order, which provides deep purification of water flowing through the structure — about 16 thousand cubic meters per day. The complex is located on an area equal to ten football fields, and is constantly being upgraded. In particular, in 2022, a system of flow-directing dams was built, which increased the residence time of wastewater on the structure, and transverse ridges with newly planted plants were filled out to improve the degree of wastewater treatment from biogenic elements.
As a result of the project, the concentration of controlled substances in wastewater has significantly decreased in a number of indicators: suspended solids, nitrogen group, metals. The water in the system is purified to a standard level, taking into account further diversion to a reservoir of fishery significance, which, in some parameters, have higher requirements than drinking water.

The ECOTECH LEADER Award is awarded for the third year in a row. In 2023, the organizing committee of the award received over 200 applications from 50 regions of Russia. TMK became the winner of the ECOTECH LEADER Award for the third time. In 2021, the Volga Pipe Plant (VTZ), part of TMK, won in the nomination "Effective eco-management" with the project "Implementation of ESG principles in the company's eco-management system". In 2022, the AQA project, implemented at two TMK enterprises — Pervouralsky Novotrubny (PNTZ) and Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling (ChTPZ) plants — won in the nomination "Construction and operation of treatment facilities".
