At the Rybinsk enterprise ODK-Saturn (part of the Rostec United Engine Corporation) has put into operation a domestic hybrid laser erosion equipment that has no analogues in Russia. It is used for the production of turbine blades of the latest PD-8 power plant.
The machines are used to process perforation holes in the nozzles and working blades of aircraft engine turbines. In one operation, the machine performs two types of processing — laser and electroerosion.
The equipment has no domestic analogues, and its cost is significantly lower than foreign samples. Previously in In Russia, the electroerosion treatment of small diameter holes with a rotating electrode in turbine blades was performed only on imported machines, and laser treatment on ceramic coating was practically absent.
The development of a new hybrid installation was carried out according to the technical specifications of ODK-Saturn at the enterprise in Zelenograd.
"The creation, implementation and testing of Russian equipment were carried out with the direct participation of ODK-Saturn specialists. This installation is unique in Russia — the presence of not only an electric erosion, but also a laser function expands the possibilities for the development of perforation technology. This equipment makes it possible to reduce the production time for blades of domestic power plants, including the promising PD-8 engine. Today, the company has four modern machines, three of which have already been put into commercial operation. Four more installations are planned to be delivered in the near future. The work of the machines has actually been organized around the clock," said Igor Ilyin, Chief Engineer of UEC—Saturn.
Turbine blades of aircraft engines are exposed to high temperatures. Therefore, to increase their heat resistance, in addition to applying a protective ceramic coating, small diameter holes are burned in them, which create the effect of "film cooling". This additionally protects the blade from the effects of the hot gas flow that is generated in the aircraft engine.
The Russian hybrid laser erosion unit allows for the automatic creation of perforation holes with preset parameters in the nozzle and working blades of turbines. The pre-laser treatment function removes the protective ceramic coating from the blade surface, followed by hole burning by electroerosion milling. Its principle is to "pull out" material particles from the surface of the blade by an electric discharge pulse.
Domestic installations are supplied as part of the company's technical re-equipment program.
