Co-founder of the American investment company Carlyle Group Inc. Bill Conway supported the creation of a new enterprise for the acquisition of land and electricity in Norway, followed by the sale of assets to data center developers and technology companies. This is reported by foreign media.

The creation of Kitebrook Infra by developer Byrne Murphy corresponds to the general trend in the field of artificial intelligence and is funded by both billionaires. Bill Conway and Byrne Murphy adhere to the development of only one source of electricity — hydroelectric power plants in the Norwegian fjords.

Over the past two years, a group of engineers has studied the hydrological maps of western Norway, identified sites in the immediate vicinity of various hydropower sources and asked for permission from local authorities to purchase land.

Kitebrook Infra is focused on sites that can use two sources of hydropower — primary and backup, eliminating the need for end users to maintain a fleet of emergency diesel generators.

One hydropower agreement has been concluded in the municipality of Masfjorden and a second one with a capacity of more than 500 MW is being prepared.

Given the congestion of the network in the United States due to the requirements for large data centers, technology companies are expanding their activities in other countries, creating infrastructure facilities necessary for AI training. At the same time, Scandinavian countries, including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, are showing rapid growth, taking into account the large number of hydroelectric power plants for the creation of data centers.

The Carlyle Group is one of the largest investment funds, managing assets worth more than $147 billion. The headquarters is located in Washington, USA. The company employs more than 563 investment specialists in 21 countries. It has more than 1,100 investors in 68 countries.
