The Chinese government has imposed anti-dumping duties of up to 74.9% on imports of POM copolymers from the United States, the EU, Japan and Taiwan. This is reported by foreign media.

POM copolymers are polyformaldehyde (polymethylene oxide, polyoxymethylene) or technical thermoplastic used in the manufacture of automotive components and electronics.

The decision was made as a result of an investigation launched in May 2024, following an increase in tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, computer chips and other imported goods to the United States.

The new duties are aimed at imports from the United States at the highest rate of 74.9%, and from Europe at the rate of 34.5%. Japanese imports will be taxed at 35.5%, with the exception of Asahi Kasei Corp., which received a lower rate of 24.5%. The total tariff for Taiwan is set at 32.6%, and for Formosa Plastics and Polyplastics Taiwan — 4% and 3.8%, respectively.

The Chinese government's statement was released amid some easing of tensions in the trade war between the United States and China, taking into account the conclusion of a 90-day truce to reduce mutual tariffs.
