The American data center operator QTS, together with its partners, has committed to increasing the transparency of projects for local communities. This is reported in a press release from Blackstone.
In particular, QTS, controlled by Blackstone Inc., Vantage Data Centers and Compass Datacenters intend, within the framework of the newly created Infrastructure for America industry group, to provide project conditions in more detail, including electricity needs, water consumption and ownership structure, waiving non-disclosure agreements from state or local authorities.
The decision was made under pressure from local communities who want to know more about the impact of new data centers on the infrastructure, ecology and economy of the region before approving projects. The data center sector is facing organized opposition, which blocked or postponed the implementation of 45 such projects in the United States in the second quarter.
The Trump administration is putting pressure on companies to pay for electricity and data center infrastructure on their own, as AI development priorities are causing a negative reaction to rising electricity bills among the population.
In the face of tightening regulatory control and growing public opposition, Infrastructure for America plans to advertise about the positive factors of data center development, including job creation and economic growth. The founders of Infrastructure for America receive support from major players financing the creation of AI infrastructure.
In particular, Silver Lake invests in Vantage, Brookfield Asset Management supports Compass, and QTS is the center of the $200 billion data center sector.
QTS (Quality Technology Services) is an American company providing infrastructure for data centers and related services. Since 2021, the company has been owned by the investment company Blackstone Inc. The headquarters is located in Overland Park, Kansas.
